Summer Training, August Training, and Physicals

Summer Training:Several members of our program made great use of their summer break by attending camps and working on strength and conditioning. We had wrestlers attend various camps including the All-American camp with Jared Frayer, Oklahoma Gold in Norman, OSU’s camp in Stillwater, Ft, Hays State’s camp, just to name a few. Throughout the summer wrestlers came in to open mat to workout with those new skills and shared what they learned with other members of the program. We also had some members of the program attend the strength and conditioning camp here at Heritage. Those individuals worked hard and the benefits will pay off not only in just a few short weeks, but also come time to hit the mats.

August Training:
Despite the end of strength and condition camp, it is vital to our success that everyone condition to work on their strength and conditioning prior to the start of school. We have included a link to the suggested workout schedule to allow our student-athletes to continue to train prior to the start of school. It is highly recommended that you continue your training the next several weeks, as we will hit the ground running the first week of school.  Those working out from home, adjust as you have to. The key is the muscle movements and the intensity. These workouts should be short, but you should be mentally and physically drained when finished.

Physicals:
We also want to remind all student-athletes that they must have their paperwork updated when we start classes. Most individuals completed this in the spring, so it should not be an issue. If you neglected to submit your paperwork last spring, make sure that you have this with you the first day of classes.

New Weight classes

Last spring the National Federation completed their participation study and approved new weight classes beginning in the 2011-12 season. This summer the UIL review and approved these weight classes. Below are the new weight classes.

106
113

132
138
145
152

Please note that previously Texas had added the 180 lbs weight class to the Federation weight classes. With the new weight classes the need for this weight class is eliminated. This reduces the total number of weight classes to 14.

2010-11 Season Wrap-up

The second full season of the Heritage Wrestling program demonstrated a great continuation of the foundation established in 2009-10 season. This season inlcuded the hosting of the first ever Heritage Duals, the hosting of the Coyote Classic Invitational, our first female District Champion, and the qualification of two individuals to the Region II Championships. As a team the boys brought home medalist from each tournament we attended. Overall the season proved to be an improvement from last year with 7 of the 9 varsity wrestlers placing at the District 16 Championships, combining for a team placing of 6th out of 12 teams. Matt Martellini was the highest placer on the boys squad, finishing 2nd at 103 pounds. The girls team reach a new milestone as well with the crowning of our first female District Champion, Kenzie Crew. Both Kenzie and Matt advanced to Regionals. With no senior class and some returning Regional experience, we expect to continue our climb up the District rankings next season. Our spring weight room work and Olympic style season practices/competitions are guiding us in that direction.

District Placing:
Kenzie Crew, DISTRICT CHAMPION at 185

Matt Martellini, 2nd at 103

Spencer Shipman, 4th at 125
Josh Laudsie, 4th at 130
